An Invitation to Artists — The Space Between Things

Dear Artist,

We write to you not from a gallery nor a hall, but from a riverbend in northern Portugal, where the chestnut trees speak more softly than cities and the wind carries stories older than stone.

At Tinhela610, creation does not come from urgency. It emerges in the pauses—between footsteps on stone, between breath and thought, between the sound of the river and the silence that follows.

In 2026, we invite artists from the different branches of the great tree of creation: a writer, a dancer, a singer, a painter, a print designer, or a sculptor.

“The Space Between Things” is a residency dedicated not to producing more, but to noticing what already exists when we stop trying to fill the space.

In a world that rewards constant output, this is a quiet rebellion.

Tucked into the wild landscape of northern Portugal, along the Tinhela River, Tinhela610 offers artists something increasingly rare: time without demand, space without noise, and nature without interruption.

Here, days unfold slowly.
Morning light enters the cabins without asking anything in return. Water is carried, not turned on. Silence is discovered.

This residency is not outcome-driven. There is no pressure to produce a finished work. No obligation to exhibit. No demand to explain. Instead, we ask:

What happens when creation is allowed to be incomplete?
When the process itself becomes the work?

Life here becomes part of the practice:
Sleep. Bathe. Nourish. Move.

At the end of the residency, we open the space to the local community—not as a formal exhibition, but as a shared moment.

Tinhela610 is not a place that asks you to become something. It is a place that quietly removes what is unnecessary—until what remains can finally be seen.

This residency is held on a contribution basis, supporting the space, the land, and the shared experience:

€450 for tent accommodation (with your own tent)
€750 for a wooden cabin

We are opening this space to a small circle: 4 places in cabins and 4 in tents.

Both options include: delicious meals prepared by our chef, linens, sauna access, and the full Tinhela610 experience to explore as you wish.
Not included: transportation and any artistic materials you may need. You are welcome to work with what you find here, in nature.

We simply ask that you arrive with a willing heart and a reverence for the wild. If this invitation stirs something quiet but certain within you, then perhaps it is meant for you.
