I have found that living close to nature changes the questions we ask ourselves. With fewer distractions, we begin to notice what leaves us tired, what brings us alive, and what we would like to give more time to. Here at Tinhela610, the river keeps moving, the seasons have their say, and we have a little more space to listen.

This is the spirit of Peace of Mind: five nights/6 days in our off-grid wilderness sanctuary in northern Portugal, to rest, reflect and explore ways of living that help us feel well. Above all, it is time to find some peace of mind—and discover how to carry it home.

A lifestyle laboratory in the wild

Thoreau went to the woods to live deliberately. We invite you to explore what that might mean in your own life today. How do you want to spend your mornings? What helps you sleep deeply? What deserves your attention, and what can you let go of?

Our lifestyle laboratory is rooted in simple, daily experiences: nourishing food, restful sleep, movement, meditation, creativity and time outdoors. We practise yoga and Chi Gong Baton, walk in silence, write a little poetry, and sometimes do very little at all. Sitting beside the river or lying in a hammock, watching the light move through the trees, can be enough. There is companionship when you want it, solitude when you need it, and room to find your own rhythm.

What is your gold?

The Romans once came to nearby Tresminas to extract gold from these hills. That history gives us a question to explore during our retreat: what is precious to you today?

Perhaps it is time. Your health. The freedom to move comfortably, a clear mind, a creative project waiting for your attention. Perhaps it is something you have almost forgotten beneath the demands of everyday life. We call this your inner gold. You might discover it on a silent walk, with your hands in the garden soil, or in a conversation around the fire.

Nature’s patterns are part of Tinhela610’s story, too. The golden ratio informed the renovation of our buildings, and 610 is both a Fibonacci number and a reference to the altitude of our riverbank. These details reflect our wish to build and live with attention to the land.

Living well, for longer

For many of us, time and health become more precious as we grow older. We want years in which we can keep walking, learning, creating and doing what we love. This is the heart of healthspan.

Together, we explore the everyday habits that support that capacity for life. Drawing inspiration from the nine principles associated with the Blue Zones, we consider natural movement, nourishment, rest, purpose and connection—and how these might fit into our own lives.

There is time to try things, notice how you feel, and choose a few practices worth taking home.

Your Days at T610

Daily movement, guided meditation and relaxation bring us together. Themed conversations offer food for thought, while poetry, sketching and watercolours make space for creativity. You can lend a hand in the permaculture garden, walk the land, watch the birds or settle into a hammock with a book.

Everything is optional. We offer a rhythm for the day, and you are free to follow what you need.

The wood-fired sauna welcomes you on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. The river offers an optional fresh dip. There may be stargazing, a wild-plant walk with our local herbalist, or singing and conversation around the campfire before bed. Massage appointments can also be arranged.

Nourishment and rest

Deliciously prepared gut-healthy and nourishing meals give us another reason to slow down and gather. Hot drinks are available when you wake, with nuts or fresh fruit for those who need a little something before our generous brunch at 11 a.m. There are afternoon snacks and dinner at 7pm, with local house wine if you wish.

Then comes the quiet of the night, a comfortable cabin, and time to sleep.

Our desire it that you leave rested, with a clearer sense of what matters to you and a few simple ways to protect it.

This is the time of our lives. Let’s give it all of our attention.
